IntroductionCamp Nominingue Campers, parents, staff and alumni, This is the first newsletter which will be coming to you through AWeber, an e-newsletter program. Camp Nominingue's 87th season is just around the corner. We hope this letter provides you with some important information about this summer's program and some important events that are on the calendar. We are planning to send out a newsletter at the beginning of each month. Notre 87e saison commence le 2 juillet. Nous souhaitons par cette lettre vous informer des nouveautés pour la 87e saison, répondre à certaines de vos questions et annoncer certains évènements prévus à l'horaire. Nous planifions vous envoyer une lettre de nouvelles à tous les mois. A new one-week program is established for 7-9 year-old campersThis summer, we decided to offer a one-week program for 7-9 year-old campers, to encourage a larger number of young campers to come to Nominingue. In 2011, over twenty campers will participate in July with another ten campers participating in August. Campers participating in the program will be introduced to a number of outdoor, skill-based activities including swimming, canoeing, campcraft, nature study and outdoor cooking. Campers will be initiated into the Nominingue community in Council Ring. They will play in a number of age-group and all-camp programs in the water and in the woods. They will get to enjoy a couple of campfires and they will also be heading out of camp on an overnight canoe trip adventure.
We will provide all of the 7-9 year-old participants with an unforgettable camp experience, which will provide them with numerous stories and memories that they will retell throughout the rest of the year and that will spark a life-long love of camp, nature and the Canadian wilderness. New instructional activities Nominingue in 2011: Climbing and Guitar
We are very excited to be able to offer two new instructional activities this summer. This spring, we are building a climbing wall at camp. The wall will be constructed in front of the craftshop on the old clay tennis court. Our climbing program will be offered both as an instructional activity and as a program during program times. Playing the guitar has always been a useful skill at camp, for campfires, for entertainment night or in chapel. This year, we will be offering guitar instruction for campers. François Duranceau, who spent seven summers as a camper at Nominingue, returns after teaching guitar for six years and having completed his music degree, to set up our program. François will also be involved in enhancing music throughout our program. Although we will be purchasing a few camp guitars, if your son would like to bring his guitar to camp, we encourage him to do so.
Immersion anglaise au Camp NominingueLe Camp Nominingue est un camp anglais situé au Québec. La majorité des campeurs sont anglophones avec plus de 20% des campeurs venant de l'Ontario et 20-25% des campeurs venant de l'extérieur du Canada. Plusieurs francophones choisissent Nominingue pour donner à leur fils l'opportunité de pratiquer son anglais. Toutes nos activités se déroulent en anglais. Nos moniteurs, malgré le fait que plusieurs parmi eux sont parfaitement bilingues, parlent aux campeurs francophones majoritairement en anglais et les encouragent à s'exprimer en anglais. Nous organisons les groupes de campeurs en s'assurant que les francophones aient des amis anglophones dans la tente. Nous engageons aussi un(e) instructeur(trice) qui donne des cours d'anglais à de petits groupes de campeurs une fois par jour, six fois par semaine. Le but de ces cours est de donner l'opportunité aux campeurs inscrits de s'exprimer en anglais et de pratiquer les expressions et le vocabulaire utilisés au Camp. Soyez certain de nous confirmer votre intérêt à la participation de votre fils à ces cours.
Practising your French at Camp NominingueDue to our location north of Montreal and to the Francophone campers who choose Nominingue to practise their English, we are able to offer opportunities for English-speaking campers to practise their French. We can place an English-speaking camper in a tent with a couple of Francophones among his tent-mates. We are able to arrange for your son to have a French-speaking counsellor and we have hired an FSL instructor who will offer French speaking practice once a day for interested campers. This instruction will take the form of a small group activity, where language will be learned while playing. Please make sure that you indicate your interest in this opportunity. The First Alumni Golf Tournament will take place on September 9, 2011 on Ile-PerrotWe are excited to announce that the 1st Annual Camp Nominingue Alumni Golf Tournament will be held at 12:30 pm on Friday, September 9th at the Club de Golf Atlantide on Ile Perrot. The purpose of the event is to raise money for Camp Amy Molson, an organization with a mission to send underprivileged children to camp. Camp Nominingue believes in the importance of camp and we would like to extend the opportunity to as many children as possible. 50% of Amy Molson's campers are referred by community and social service agencies such as CSSS and Youth Protection - 90% are from families whose income is below the poverty line. The day will begin with registration at 11:30 am. Registration will be followed delicious brunch and a putting competition. The Shotgun Tee Off is scheduled for 12:30 pm. During the afternoon, as the golfers enjoy the beautiful waterfront course, a number of competitions will be held, such as the Longest Drive, Closest to the Pin and Beat the Pro. A delicious supper will be followed by an auction to help raise additional funds.
Cost to play in the Tournament is $700 per foursome or $175 per person. This cost includes a deluxe brunch, a great day of golf, a sumptuous supper and the chance to participate in several contests. Non-golfers, Camp Nominingue Alumni and friends unable to join us for the whole day, but who wish to participate in the event, are welcome to join us for supper at a cost of $50. If you or your company would like to support this great cause, you may sponsor a hole for $250. If you have not received an invitation, please contact us to receive one. 2011 Family Camp - August 20 to August 28Beginning on August 20th, Camp Nominingue will be hosting its 27th Family camp. For many families, family camp has become a tradition, a great way to finish the summer and rest up prior to the school year. In addition to families who are looking simply for a relaxing holiday, we also welcome alumni returning to relive their past camp experiences and also parents interested in introducing their sons to Nominingue and their children to camp. Each summer, the program changes slightly as we adjust the program to the interest and requests of the guests. Last summer, bike trips on the Petit train du nord and yoga on the beach were popular and these programs will be continued this summer. We will introduce climbing to the program, taking advantage of our new climbing wall. Guitar instruction and star-gazing will also be added to the program. Returning guests also appreciate some of our traditional events, such as day canoe excursions to the Falls or Acapulco, mountain biking on our trail system, the steak and corn roast or the M'shwee, "Spot" on "Honk your horn hill", the archery and riflery competitions, Council Ring, our wine and cheese party, Celtic music with Sean Dagher, and much more. We will continue to offer these programs in 2011.

Pillars of Nominingue AwardThe Pillars Award was established four years ago with the expressed purpose of recognizing individuals who had contributed in an important way to the growth and the success of Camp Nominingue. In 2011, Gordon C. Allan, Roméo Desroches, Munro Bourne and Marvin Wexler will be honoured on Saturday, August 27 during Alumni Weekend, on the final weekend of Family Camp. We hope that a number of you will come and join us up at Nominingue as we recognize their contributions. | |
